About GameUnderground

A small, independent library for indie and classic games — and the people who made them.

Our mission

GameUnderground exists because too many great games slip through the cracks. Indie titles get buried under storefront algorithms, classic releases lose their official download pages when publishers move on, and the developers who originally shipped these projects often stop seeing any revenue from them long before players stop loving them.

We are a hobbyist project that curates a small library of games we have personally played and recommend. For every entry we link the official storefront or download where it exists, and we point readers at the developer's own donation or support channel so the credit and the money keep flowing to the people who actually built the game.

How we pick games

Every game on the site is added by hand, not scraped. Before a title is listed, we check:

  • The game is finished or in a stable, playable state — no abandoned alphas.
  • It has either an indie developer or a recognised place in gaming history.
  • A legitimate download or storefront exists, or the game is freely distributed by its author.
  • We can write an honest, original description in our own words.

We deliberately keep the catalogue small. A library you can read top-to-bottom is more useful than a database of 50,000 titles nobody has time to filter.

Editorial standards

We do not accept payment to feature a game. We do not write fake reviews. Every page on the site is editorially controlled by the site owner; reader-submitted suggestions are evaluated against the same criteria as everything else.

When a page contains an affiliate link (for example to NordVPN in the footer), it is clearly labelled as sponsored. Affiliate revenue helps cover hosting costs but never influences which games we list.

Who runs the site

GameUnderground is operated by a single hobbyist editor. The project is funded by modest display advertising and a small number of affiliate partnerships. No outside investors. No content quotas. Just a list of games worth knowing about.
